Why do people advertise their blog like a spammer?

The No.1 reason people advertise their blog is because they want to make money! Is this the new trend of blogging?

I thought blogging is just for personal interest or am I wong?

Nowadays, from what i observe, bloggers in these days do have some similiarity with the internet spammers. They just spam around the internet, forum other blogs about their own blog. Is this an ethical way to market their blog?
