I Will Never Buy Acer Laptop Anymore
I personally having a very bad experience using ACER laptop. I had an Acer laptop with the model Acer Aspire 5560 series. It’s a Centrino Duo with Ati X1400 graphic card. I was using it for over 1 year plus. It was a total rip off from Acer. This laptop have numerous problem that will really scare you off. If you don’t believe me you can do a search in google on this model. For your information, Acer laptop is well known with hardware issue such as faulty graphic card, faulty motherboard, faulty LCD screen, blank screen, etc.
Few days ago, my laptop breakdown again. This time it was a total lost. The motherboard burned due to extreme overheating from the processor and video card. For your information, the processor and the graphic card is seated side by side sharing with the same heat sink. It was really a bad design because the overheating problem will never solve. My Ati X1400 graphic card became faulty because of this overheating issue. When i send in to Acer Customer Service, they just replace a new one for me. I was lucky because that time my warranty is still valid.
After they fixed it, after using for a couple of month and then the problem came back. I tell you what, I previously had send in this laptop to repair for 4 times already. Still no cure for my laptop. The laptop always unstable and have many crashes due to hardware issue. If you are using the same model, then good luck to you. I anyhow advise you not to send in for repair because it is totally waste of money unless you still in the warranty period. Otherwise, you are just throwing money into the sea for this trash ACER laptop.
I will not recommend anyone from buying Acer laptop anymore due to my very bad experience using it. If you are looking for a highly reliable laptop, I highly recommend buying Dell laptops. I will recommend more on the Dell Latitude and XPS. For more reliable laptops, click here.

I agree with you my friend. Their laptops is completely rubbish. Some of their laptops are totally reject model in the market. You can have various problem with them. Do they really have QC done?
My mom used to have an Acer laptop. She is using the Aspire series. What I can tell is the laptop constantly crashes. I suppose its a major hardware issue in the main board. Lesson of the day, never ever go for cheap laptops. Go for a reliable ones with an average price.
yeah, go for the notebooks with average to high prices. whether its DELL or ACER both of their low cost notebook models have common crashing problems.
I agree with you. I personally do not think Acer laptop is a reliable brand. I used to have lots of problem with it. So, stay away from the brand. You may consider getting ASUS laptop with 3 years warranty.

Yeah i agree, i prefer compaq with a good dual processor… There cheap laptops, but last really well and are sturdy…

Well.. i’m been used for 2 years and no problem at all and i had sell it for RM1000.
This is 2nd time I send my Acer laptop for warranty. Again it’s overheat problem. Lastime it took me abt 2 month for warranty service. I tired with this Acer laptop problem again and again.
Get rid of your laptop. Sell it off once you get back your laptop. Trust me. This is the only way. After your warranty, you will regret.

both my sisters had Acer laptop. switch it on for couple of hour then it started to crashes. Please use good cooling pad.
Its really disheartening to read your post. No cure to my laptop.I feel your pain and I have the exactly same problem as you. I dun think overheating is the correct term. Its should be called burning. Its like putting your hands on boiling water. Its kinda freaking ridiculous to have that overheating. Extracting some file plus watching video means overheating and shuting down Kinda sad rite? But its my first laptop and other than the overheating, it works quite well. Maybe its just the design that is bad for this laptop. I would not say acer sux and the above problem by many people can be due to simple problems like not clearing up space time after time and not installing antivirus or installing the wrong ones. Computer idiots always have lots of problems with their comp.
I am using a Acer Aspire 5104 series, the first year it ran pretty fine, only had to send it once to Acer because of overheating problems. But they only cleaned the dust from it thats all, problems still occured but I didn’t mind anymore as long as it kept running. But after my warranty expired more problems began, my laptop suddenly powers off while working on Windows Vista.
It doesn’t load, it doesn’t allow me to restore backups with Acronis True Image. Even the E-Recovery software can’t restore the backup because it everytime powers off in the middle of the progress.
My conclusion, at first the laptops may have specifications equal to more expensive laptops, but at long term you will notice the diffrence in build quality. And their customer support and warranty sucks. My brother who has an Acer Travelmate have the same problems, and gets cracks in the casing of his laptop. My laptop had a life time of 21 months. Now it doesn’t boot anymore, my brothers lifetime well its now on 16 months but he is getting problem after problem. It seems that most Acer laptops won’t last longer then 2 years.
My advice is getting a laptop produced by a company who makes their own parts (ODM) like Asus or Samsung. Since they give longer warranty, have better support, and know what to do. Also, don’t be decieved by the prices of the Acer laptops, they only last maximum for 2 years. Well, brands like Asus and Samsung last way longer.
I m using Acer aspire 5560 since 2007 till now for my graphic job. Same as our friend above which I only switch off when asking to restart for specific reason. Never send to service at all. My acer run very smooth fast and realiable until last feb my acer start over heating and always auto shutdown. My solution just use extra big fan and cooler fan below. Lucky at my office aircond sejuk giler.
Last june i bought new acer timeline with 4GB RAM Vista which always giving me more more and more problem on running graphic application – unstable and very slowwww comparing with my old aspire 5560 with only 1GB RAM running on XP sp3.
But i lost my timeline last 2 week leaving me no choice using back my Aspire 5560.
My previus experience using IBM, Fujitsu, Asus, NEC, and Acer .. Fujitsu and Asus is the best.

I’m using Acer aspire 4520. just bought from my friend of friend about rm1200. I’m using lest than 2month when suddenly my laptop cannot boot. power turn on about 2sec then off.So frustrated. I send my laptop to acer for checking.I just receive answer from acer yesterday about my laptop.they told me that motherboard problem. need to change.It cost about rm768 to change motherboard & warranty 1 year. i think its not ‘berbaloi’ to change motherboard.
better buy new laptop.my 1 choice is ASUS due to its reliability & cheap.

Johann, you cant replace the video card because it is integrated with the motherboard.
I have had my acer aspire for about 3 years now, within 3 months after buying the keyboard went out, i was using the on screen keyboard for about 6 months when i decided to go ahead and send it in to acer once i had a backup laptop to use, that was over a year ago, and every since i have had no problems, i would recommend acer to anyone, i have had many computers dell,gateway,toshiba,hp and there have been none that i like more than this acer. I was glad to hear that acer also now owns emachines, packard bell and Gateway. And they have become one of the worlds best computers.
I disassembled my laptop yesterday to change the thermal compound. After I reassembled it and turned it on it went to the acer bios which is normal and I tried to go to the bios setup. I set everything to default but the unexpected happened. I shutdown by itself. When I tried turning it on again it won’t. After 10 mins of thinking for solution I tried to turned it again and then everything went fine until it shuts down again before the boot screen of windows. After that I cannot turn it on again. I need a 10 mins of span of time to turn it on again. Do you know any solution for this? Is my motherboard busted?

I’ve been using acer 5560 since 2004 or 2005 when it 1st launched, (surprisingly it still is surviving), basically this notebook has an overheating problem due to poor chassis design, mine lasted that long cos i self serviced it through out its’ life span. Plus i added one cooling fan pad and an exhaust fan at the air vent, the processor cooling fan wears out to easily so i din bother replacing it. it cannot be squeezed for perfomance otherwise overheats and shutdown, i limit it’s 3d usage as much as possible. In other words this lappie sucks to the core but it still can be used to do work….DUN BUY IT. As for Johann, check if the is any spill from the thermal compound or foreign metal object on the motherboard, it may cause the motherboard to short curcuit if not burn XD. I learn that hard lesson long long time ago…..
Btw, there a few brand and model notebook thats allows you to change or upgrade graphic cards, but those are hell expensive, those i know are eurocom and alienware (if it still has as it was bought over by Dell some donkeys years ago). Those notebook cost over RM 10k.
Make sure you guys learn from our bad experience. Next time, whenever you guys gonna get a new laptop, make sure the laptop will not heat up easily. This will be always the first thing in your checklist!

I second that notion! man ACER is B.A.D! its horrible! ever since I got it 3 years back … I had to take to repair in ACER kuala Lumpur , ACER Manila and ACER Dhaka! its a laptop thats always sick or has technical ( health ) problems. What a bad bad piece of technology.. tut tut tut. Selling mine as spare parts also ( ACER 3680 USA Series ).

Barang murah memang la tak tahan lama… aku suggest pakai Apple Macbook. Walaupun mahal sket tapi tahan lama n yang paling aku respek bateri tahan sampai 6-7 jam (aku test main lagu ngan quicktime dari 12 malam sampai 6.30 pagi aku bgn tido). Yang lain2 paling lama pun tahan 2-3 jam walaupun tak bukak apa2 program. tapi kalau takde duit lebih pakai je mana2 brand. Acer pun ok jgk syarat korang pandai jaga elok2. Aku pun pakai fujitsu je. Kawan aku pakai Macbook dah 5 tahun takde apa2 masalah. Memang best! Syarat ada duit lebih je
from my previous experience in laptop, my suggestion is not to buy new laptop model because the manufacturer tends to solve the problems after investigating the complaint that they receive then will the new laptop that are going to be sold is in good shape, is like trial and error thing. buy after 5 to 6 month after the laptop have been launch.
i used to have a compaq laptop that has a problem with its dvd drive then i send it for warranty then after a couple of month the cpu fan is dead (month after the warranty is not valid anymore), so the cpu will be hot enough that it restart by itself.
that is my only suggestion.
all laptop are same man…if you to lazy to take a services of it’s.. it may become crashes… every 6 moths you better gets your lappy services, otherwise you gonna feel that experience.
ventilation is more important. make sure you have the rite ext ventilation fan for your lappy.

Acer parts is more cheaper then others brands. so don’t ever says Dells is good then Acer. cause when its breakdown … you don’t have to repair its.. just buy new DELL’s. Also branded model are difficult to upgrading any system. including OS.
changed 3 motherbaords within 2.5 years. First time was HDD connector having problem. Second time was due to meomry slots, and the third time was the connector for power adaptor. Remote for windows media did not work, power adapter was faulty and replaced while it was still under warrantee.
Any potential buyer out there, my advice is do not touch acer laptop with a 10 foot pole. Regardless of what you have read on the net about how reliable they are, acer laptops really aren’t good at all.
I have used laptops from Toshiba, Fujitsu, Dell, even IBM. None of them giving me as much problem as acer. Local Acer sales and marketing office couldn’t be bothered when I call them up to complain about ther quality. likewise with highpoint. This will be the last time I buy any acer product.
