Fix Key Ports Windows Live Messenger OnCatalogResult: 0×80072ee6

This is a common problem when user cannot login into their Windows Live Messenger or unable to reinstall their WLM. This “OnCatalogResult: 0×80072ee6” is a common error when there is no internet connectivity detected on your computer. This problem is also related to the key ports problem in Windows Live Messenger.

Solution 1#: Make sure you turn off any firewall and also check your task manager if there is any firewall software running.

Solution 2#: Remove the proxy settings in Internet Explorer. Open Internet explorer. Click the tools menu, then Internet options. Select the connections tab. Click the “LAN Settings” button. Next, tick the “Automatically Detect Settings” option. Untick “Use a proxy server for your LAN” option.

Solution 3#: 1. Press the Start menu then select Run. Type: “regsvr32 softpub.dll” then press enter and restart messenger.

Solution 4#: Open Internet Explorer, Go to Tools->Internet Options. Go to Advanced Tab. Go under ‘Security section’ and untick “Check for server certificate revocation” .

Thats it. You can now login to windows live or update to the latest version of WLM.

    This actually the best info I’ve gotten yet… Some of the others advise was to download a program to fix the registry. My problem is that my registry did not have issues with WLM like the others…

    One thing to note… And I’m on Win7 if interested but it does not make a difference….. 1. after making the changes above do a restart (solution#3 not really needed for me) a restart is needed as I was not able to do the above without a restart. 2. In the Lan Settings also uncheck the “se automated configuration Script” as welll… the configuration script is a JavaScript file that contains logic to determine whether to use a proxy and what proxy to use for a given target resource. (.pac) often times has issues from earlier versions of IE as well as OS’s the ‘automatic config script’ is utilized… It resufaces and checks it self back in the Lan Settings when corrupted. you have to regsvr32 /u ahiehelp.dll to unhinder the problem…
