How to fix ‘SBS Core Services‘ auto shutdown in 30 minutes?

Below is a quick fix for the auto shut down problem caused by Windows Server 2003 ‘SBS Core services’.

Error message in Event Viewer:

The License Logging service could not be restarted. The server will be shut down in 30 minutes if the service is not restarted.

Solution:

How to stop SBS Core Services (SBSCREXE.EXE) ?
First of all go and download this tool ‘Process Explorer‘

SBS Core Services will be restarted automatically once the process is killed.

To overcome this problem, use Process Explorer to suspend the process with the name ‘SBSCREXE.EXE’

After that, we will need to disable/restrict the process from being automatically restarted.

Run RegEdit32.exe and expand the nodes until you see the following folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SBCore

Right click on ‘SBCore’, choose permissions and give the “Administrators” group on the local machine full access. F5 to refresh and you will see some new values in your right window.

On the right window of the Registry Editor, select the “Start” DWORD and change it from “2″ to “4″ and this value will sets the service to the “Disabled” mode.

Next, go back to process explorer, and kill the sbscrexe.exe process.
If you do accordingly this method, you will have your SBCORE Services disabled by now.
