Are you a victim of Hal.dll?

Why Hal.dll causing problem?

This problem may occur when the the following condition are true:

- The Default value in the [Boot Loader] section of the Boot.ini file is missing or invalid.
- Windows XP is not installed in the location specified in the Boot.ini file.
- The ntoskrnl.exe file is missing or damaged.
- The partition path in the Boot.ini file is not set correctly.
- General hardware failure.

So how to fix Hal.dll?

Restore the hal.dll file from the Windows XP CD. If the hal.dll file is the main cause of the problem, restoring it from the original Windows XP CD may solve the problem.

1. Start the computer by using your Windows XP CD-ROM. Press any key to boot from the CD.
2. After the setup files are finished loading press R to repair using Recovery Console.
3. At the recovery console command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

For Uni-Processor systems:
expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

For Multi-Processor systems:
expand d:\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ c:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

4. If you receive a prompt to overwrite the file, press Y.
5. Type exit, and press ENTER at the command prompt.
6. Restart your PC and you are done.

If you cant fix hal.dll using this method, then the problem probablly caused by other issue such as bad or corrupted partition.
